Help a Growing Detroit Placed-Based Nonprofit Tell Its Story

About the Internship
JEI seeks a highly-motivated graduate or under-graduate candidate with some experience in marketing and digital communications. You have a gift of storytelling, creative writing, and are confident at pushing content via appropriate social media channels. You are eager to help grow the marketing and communications capacity and reach of a small place-based nonprofit on Detroit’s east side.

JEI’s summer internship will expose you to strategic communication development, marketing, social media, public relations, media, event planning and fund development. You will learn about municipal government, urban planning, real estate, small business attraction, housing, and nonprofits. Come support the East Jefferson corridor and Detroit’s five historic neighborhoods with your storytelling abilities.

Spend the summer working with JEI to grow your top-notch professional portfolio and gain real world experience in an entrepreneurial environment.

Internship Details
• Bachelors in Journalism, PR, Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Photography, or English
• Must have verification of college enrollment or graduation record
• Internship reports to JEI’s Deputy Director
• Free parking

Compensation
$15 hourly
40 hours/week for 12 weeks (June through August/start date flexible)

Responsibilities & Projects
Here is how you will make a difference helping JEI tell its story:

• Assist the JEI team in marketing and communications strategy development
• Update JEI’s digital platforms (website, social media); work with a web design company to update website
• Support marketing material development for JEI’s September Annual Meeting
• Assist Deputy Director working with graphic designer on digital and print collateral
• Design and write fliers, print mailers, email blasts, as needed
• Assist JEI team with writing and editing program marketing materials
• Write press releases and coordinate with local print, TV and radio media, as needed
